One Day Programme on Energy Conservation in Compressed Air System

Introduction

Industrial compressed air systems accounts for nearly 25% of industrial electricity energy demand. Compressed air system offer a saving potential of 20-30%. Matching the compressor to the system to enable to operate at best efficiency is often ignored during the selection of compressors. The energy saving potential in compressed air system is hidden and can be unearthed only by a detailed study including measurement of flow and determination of operating efficiency. There is a need to educate practicing engineers to tune up the existing system to maximise energy savings.

With this in view, Dr.Ambedkar Institute of Productivity, National Productivity Council, Chennai is organising a one day training programme on “Energy Conservation in Compressed Air System”.

National Certification Examination for Energy Managers and Energy Auditors

Background

The Government of India has enforced The Energy Conservation Act, 2001 (No 52 of 2001, 29th September 2001) with effect from 1st March 2002. The Act provides mainly for efficient use of energy and its conservation and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. As per the Energy Conservation Act 2001, it is mandatory for all the designated energy consumers to get energy audit conducted by an Accredited Energy Auditor [under clause 14(h) and 14(i)] and to designate or appoint an Energy Manager [under clause 14(l)]. The Government of India has notified the list of designated consumers and the details are available at the following link: http://www.bee-india.nic.in/sidelinks/Exams07/Gazette_of_IndiaPartIISec3Sub-sec(ii)19_03_2007.pdf

Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Government of India, is empowered to specify the regulations and mechanism to meet the above objectives. BEE has retained the National Productivity Council (NPC) as the National Certifying Agency, which would conduct the National Level Certification Examination for Energy Managers & Energy Auditors under the aegis of Bureau.

One-Day Workshop on "e - Governance"

Why is E-Governance the new buzzword?

The colonial view of the Government used to be as a “CONTROLLER and RULER”. Today the Government’s role is like that of a coordinator and service provider. The Government is responsible for providing certain services to the citizens, just like a corporation is responsible for managing the value chain, which leads to output. Business corporations have discovered for the last two decades that with information. Technology they can make the value chain more efficient and this leads to quality increase and cost savings. Similarly, Governments have discovered that with Information Technology they can make the provision of the services to the citizens more efficient, transparent, can save costs and lead to a higher level of efficiency. This application of Information Technology enabled Process & Systems is called E-Governance or E-Government.

What do most E-Governance Initiatives involve?

It involves the entire citizens interfaces with the Government: delivery of government products and services, access to government information & transactions.

The programme highlights all the three aspects of E-Governance namely

· Information Technology Frame Works

· Citizens Access

· Government Process Improvement

Why should Government adopt E-Governance and what are its practical benefits?

A cute acronym has been coined for these possible results of E-Governance – SMART which stands for Simple, Moral, Accountable, Responsive and Transparent Governments.

Practical benefits include simpler documentation, faster applications, simpler procurement, greater reach of services, accelerating education, public participation and simplifying transactions.

Programme Design & Objectives

The programme will cover all the stages of E-Governance namely:

Ø Information Technology Frameworks

Ø Digitisation

Ø Citizens Access

Ø Content

COVERAGE

v E-Governance-Framework

v Maturity Models of E-Governance Systems

v Information Flow through Internet Technology

v Information Systems-Strategic & Tactical Planning Issues

PARTICIPATION PROFILE

This programme is meant for Group A officers from State & Central Government.

Programme on TPM at Cochin

PROGRAMME

TOTAL PRODUCTIVE MAINTENANCE (TPM)

INTRODUCTION

Total Productive Maintenance, widely known by its acronym TPM, has become a buzz word among the successful organizations in India and abroad. Concept of TPM was evolved in Japan and promoted by Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM) since the year 1970. What TPM does is help companies achieve high level of productivity by developing self-managing abilities in workers and managers which, in turn improve skills and work practices, ultimately leading to reduction in costs and increase in production. The essence of TPM is business process improvement through Working Teams, cutting across organizational layers. These teams are empowered and supported by suitable training and other inputs. They handle the entire process of problem identification, suggestions for improvement and implementation of the solution in collaborative fashion. A number of leading organizations in India, namely Grasim, Vikram Cement, TANFAC, Hindustan Lever, etc., have already implemented and also won the TPM Excellence Awards.

This programme is aimed at imparting necessary knowledge and skills to the executives to initiate implementation of the concepts of TPM in their organisations.

PROGRAMME COVERAGE

  • Concept of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
  • 5S and Kaizen.
  • Improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness through reduction of six major losses.
  • Autonomous maintenance system and small group activities
  • Planned maintenance system.
  • Skill Improvement of Operators and maintenance workmen.
  • Maintenance prevention and early equipment management
  • Office TPM
  • Implementation of TPM

METHODOLOGY

The programmee will be conducted through lecture sessions, case studies, discussions and audiovisual aids.
