Programme on TPM at Cochin

PROGRAMME

on

TOTAL PRODUCTIVE MAINTENANCE (TPM)

INTRODUCTION

Total Productive Maintenance, widely known by its acronym TPM, has become a buzz word among the successful organizations in India and abroad. Concept of TPM was evolved in Japan and promoted by Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM) since the year 1970. What TPM does is help companies achieve high level of productivity by developing self-managing abilities in workers and managers which, in turn improve skills and work practices, ultimately leading to reduction in costs and increase in production. The essence of TPM is business process improvement through Working Teams, cutting across organizational layers. These teams are empowered and supported by suitable training and other inputs. They handle the entire process of problem identification, suggestions for improvement and implementation of the solution in collaborative fashion. A number of leading organizations in India, namely Grasim, Vikram Cement, TANFAC, Hindustan Lever, etc., have already implemented and also won the TPM Excellence Awards.

This programme is aimed at imparting necessary knowledge and skills to the executives to initiate implementation of the concepts of TPM in their organisations.
